BREAKING: Soprom Hotel Onitsha Just Got Burnt (VIDEO)




The Sopurum Hotel in the Nkwelle neighborhood of the commercial metropolis of Onitsha, Anambra State, was


completely destroyed by fire, consuming a sizable portion of the building.


Although the fire's origin is yet unknown, it is believed to have started on Monday about 4:30 am.


At the time this report was sent, firefighters from the states of Anambra and Delta had already arrived on the scene to deal with the emergency.

Martins Agbili, the Anambra State Fire Chief, could not be reached for comment right away since he did not answer calls or texts to his phone number.


However, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokesman for the state police, acknowledged the fire occurrence and stated that everything is under control.


"The situation is in good hands. The fire broke out at 4:30 am on Monday, and as soon as we learned about it, our personnel mobilized to the scene and cordoned off the area to prevent any instances of vandalism.


No one has died, and the firefighters are on the scene containing the situation.

Warnings as deadly Central African Republic violence returns

Bangassou - Bullet-riddled roofs line the "boulevard of death" in Central African Republic's southeastern town of Bangassou, where almost everyone who enters is seen as an enemy. ANAMBRA ELECTION : police to deploy 28,000 police/military men to Anambra

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Garba Umar, says it will deploy 28,000 of its personnel to Anambra state's governorship election scheduled for November 18. Mr. Umar said this at a meeting in Awka, the state capital, on Tuesday of heads of security formations in the state and representatives of the 37 political parties fielding candidates for the election. He said that 400 vehicles,100 flying boats consisting of 60 from the police and 40 from the Navy would be deployed for use by security operatives in riverine and upland communities. He said that the police and other security organisations would not spare anybody found wanting during and after the election.
