Over 245 persons were killed in violent attacks across the country in the first month of the new year alone according to various newspaper reports and available records. Nigeria’s federal government has come under intense criticism with a senator recently calling on the government to resign. The country has been overwhelmed with violent attacks from the resurgent Boko Haram attacks in the Northeast as well as increased cases of killings and kidnappings across the country. The country’s Christian population recently held protests nationally to protest killings in the country prominent among them being the killing of the Adamawa state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

Planes have been sent to inject chemicals into clouds in an effort to alter precipitation. Jakarta and surrounding districts have struggled to cope since a storm on New Year's Eve left large areas underwater. At least 43 people are known to have died, with some 192,000 evacuated, and more rain is expected. Three children of the same mother were, this afternoon, killed in a fire accident along High Tension School Road, Ugwuagba-Obosi, Anambra State. According to the police, the fire started around 2:15 pm inside two containers used as shop and apartment. . Their mother, Blessing Nwafor, had left three of her children namely Chimierie, 5, Onyedika, 4, and Esther, 3, inside the container and stepped out before tragedy struck. . The cause of the fire is not yet known but the charred remains of the victims have since been taken to Bex Hospital mortuary.

A Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Apo has ordered a Yahoo boy, Edwin Ogbomwan (aka Thomas Jerry Stars), to forfeit iPhone X and car, a Toyota Camry 2006 model to the Federal Government. Justice D. Senchi also sentenced the convict to two months in prison with the option of paying N1m fine. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Bengaluru on Wednesday, July 25, arrested a Nigerian national with 155.5 grams of cocaine which was being transported from Mumbai to the city. The accused identified as Ozy Chukwudu, 30, was intercepted by the NCB sleuths when he disembarked from a sleeper bus from Mumbai to Bengaluru. With specific information of cocaine smuggling, the NCB team was waiting for his arrival from Mumbai. Chukwudu, who did not have a passport and other documents, was carrying a polythene bag with 11 capsules which contained cocaine. The drug was brought to Mumbai by an unidentified man hiding it in his stomach and was later handed over to Chukwudu to be brought to Bengaluru. According to a press release by the NCB, Bengaluru, the value of the contraband is said to be around Rs 93 lakh in the international market. The Police in Ogun have arrested a suspected indian hemp merchant, who was reportedly caught with 114 bags of the illegal substance. The Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect identified as Noah Olaore was arrested on December 29, 2017 in front of the Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta. ”Men of Ogun State Police Command have arrested one Noah Olaore ‘m’ with one hundred and fourteen bags of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp,” said Mr. Oyeyemi in a statement. Police: Prophet now faces murder charge The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe and his council of chiefs have banished a prophet, Oni Olakanye, from the town over the death of a woman seeking spiritual help in his custody. Olakanye, of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Palace of Mercy, Olokuta, Ado-Ekiti, was said to have carried out a “spiritual cleansing” on the woman, simply identified as Mrs. Olawale. The woman was said to have come all the way from Lagos to seek Olakanye’s help over her inability to conceive after over seven years of marriage. The case was reported to the Ewi’s palace by her relatives after she took ill and her health deteriorated after the spiritual cleansing in Olakanye’s church. 23-year-old man arrested in Katsina State after he slashed his girlfriend's throat for planning to marry another man The Katsina State Police Command have arrested one Abubakar Sule, 23, over attempted murder of his girlfriend, Aisha Dikko. It was gathered that Sule had tricked Aisha, 21, into a bush at Tamawa village in the Kurfi Local Government Area of the state, allegedly slashed her throat with a knife and fled believing she was dead. A newlywed bride Shafa Muhammad, 28, attacked her husband with a razor blade, three weeks after their wedding, and injured him in the head. President of Rotary Club International, Olori Opeyemi Omobolawa Fola, has died as result of gas explosion in Osogbo. This happened barely 48 hours after a gas cylinder explosion triggered by a phone call, killed three people in Sagamu, Ogun State. The sad incident happened on Wednesday December 13, 2017. The trained senior nurse who was also the President, Rotary Club International, GRA, Osogbo, was said to have gone to the popular Grace Gas, Osogbo, to refill her cylinder, when she suddenly had a call and brought out her phone from her pocket. According to an eyewitness, the phone exploded instantly, set the woman and her car on fire, flung the cylinder to a far distance. Some others were also said to have been seriously injured as a result of the explosion.

A 23-year-old Indian mother had doctors in total shock when she gave birth to the country’s second ‘Mermaid baby’ whose gender was impossible to be determined, but lost it just four hours later. A video has shown herdsmen grazing their cattle around the Aso Rock presidential villa in Abuja. The video, exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES Thursday, shows a column of cattle led along a road near the entrance to the vice president’s office, obstructing vehicular movements. It was not clear how the animals and their herders accessed the restricted area of upmarket Asokoro district. A PREMIUM TIMES journalist who stopped by to get a better view of the animals, was compelled by security agents to delete suspicious pictures and videos from his phone. A 70-year old landlady, Mrs. Victoria Kilani has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for allegedly engaging suspected criminals who broke into her tenant’s apartment through the roof and stole his properties. P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at 30 Arowojobe Street, Oshodi, Lagos where the tenant, Ugo Oluaka resided.
